One Piece Season 2 scripts are primed and ready! Brace yourselves for epic episodes!
Following its impressive debut, the team behind Netflix’s “One Piece” series has announced that scripts for a potential Season 2 are already finished, and they anticipate the next season could be ready for broadcast within a year once production recommences.
Marty Adelstein, CEO of Tomorrow Studios, the production company collaborating with manga creator Eiichiro Oda and publisher Shueisha on the live-action adaptation of “One Piece,” expressed this development to Variety.
Becky Clements, President of Tomorrow Studios, shared her optimism about a speedy launch of Season 2 once they are allowed to proceed, possibly as early as the coming year. Clements suggested a timeframe of anywhere between a year and 18 months before the season could be prepared for airing.
The One Piece series, led by showrunners Matt Owens and Steven Maeda, transports viewers to a fantastical world where pirates and marines engage in battles for dominance over the Blue Sea. The story follows the young aspiring pirate king, Monkey D. Luffy (played by Iñaki Godoy), who, despite his inability to swim due to consuming the magical “Gum Gum” Devil Fruit as a child, embarks on a quest to find the legendary “one piece” treasure of Pirate King Gold Roger (played by Michael Dorman). Along the way, he assembles a diverse crew of sailors, known as the Straw Hat Pirates, aboard his ship, the Going Merry.
Netflix celebrated the successful launch of Season 1 of One Piece, which quickly claimed the top spot on the English-language TV series list, garnering 18.5 million views in its first four days of availability. While an official announcement about Season 2 has yet to be made, Adelstein and Clements remain confident that a renewal is on the horizon, given Netflix’s strong support for the series.
In contrast to Tomorrow Studios’ earlier experience with the canceled live-action adaptation of Cowboy Bebop for Netflix, they are optimistic about the future of One Piece. Netflix is currently evaluating various options for the series, such as the number of episodes and potential breaks between them. Adelstein expects to hear from Netflix in the coming weeks about their long-term strategy for the show.
To secure a second season for One Piece, the key challenge is to maintain the initial high viewership numbers by attracting audiences who may not be familiar with the manga or anime on which it is based. Adelstein stressed the importance of broadening the show’s appeal, particularly among families and those new to the franchise, emphasizing that the series can stand on its own and has the potential to win over a diverse audience.
