Hey trainers! Great news – a sequel to the popular 2019 movie, Pokémon: Detective Pikachu, is in the works!
The first movie was a huge success, with Ryan Reynolds voicing Pikachu and a lighthearted story about a crime-solving Pikachu and a budding Pokémon trainer uncovering a pharmaceutical conspiracy. Now, Deadline reports that Jonathan Krisel, co-creator of Portlandia, is in talks to direct the sequel. Chris Galletta, the writer behind The Kings of Summer, is also attached to the screenplay.
It’s been a few years since the first movie came out, and fans have been eagerly anticipating the sequel. Legendary Entertainment teased it in early 2019, but then things went quiet. However, last month in February 2023, they confirmed that the project was still in development. While we don’t know exactly when the sequel will be released, we do know that Ryan Reynolds will have some role in it.
So, get ready to see more computer-animated Pokémon mingling with humans in the near-future world of Detective Pikachu. And, in addition to the movie, there’s also a sequel to the Detective Pikachu game in the works.
It’s an exciting time to be a Pokemon fan!
